Hospitality Records: High Contrast + Shy FX + Danny Byrd + Transit Mafia
Its time for the Soulful dons to return to Detonate and Plug with another scintillating Hospitality party. The label behind the kaleidoscopic deebee manifesto rock up with their mafia to ensure another journey through the outer reaches of liquid jungle musical manoeuvres.
Topping the bill is the label's jewel in the crown and figurehead of the movement, High Contrast. The guy who answers to Lincoln Barrett at airports across the planet is sitting so high up on the drum n bass echelons of influence he's gasping for oxygen, his lofty status constantly assured within the scene. Last year's epic ‘Tough Guys Don't Dance' was Lincoln at his best, 100% soulful High Contrast genius. Detonate rarely has a DJ more loved than this guy.
And then there's the legendary Shy FX. With a heritage that stretches all the way back to hardcore and the aggressive manipulation of acid house and breakbeats, Shy FX blew into consciousness with the sound of the apocalypse in the ragga infused jungle monster ‘Original Nuttah', one of the defining points of early jungle. If that wasn't enough, he also managed to get that piano line from Sex and the City onto an 180bpm drum pattern that had the heads nodding in approval, not to mention the cash registers ringing in HMV, Virgin and even Tesco. All without losing an ounce of credibility.
Support comes form Hospital's Lieutenant Danny Byrd, the architect of the ‘Super Sized' long player that was heralded as one of the finest opuses DnB has crafted in recent years, as well as Detonate's own hillbillies of renegade funk Transit Mafia.
