/// The Ratells

With a sound variously described as “post punk indie pop”, “sparklingly melodic” and “epic”, The Ratells are now an established, must-see band in the vibrant South Yorkshire music scene.

Exuberant, high energy sets infused with the band’s infectious buzz have attracted a large and growing fan base to venues across the region, including sell-out shows at the O2 Academy Sheffield (1500 cap), The Plug, The Leadmill, and The Boardwalk. The band have been nominated for countless awards in the past year including Exposed Magazine’s Band of The Year and picked up Hallam FM’s ‘Band of The Week’ accolade after their performance at Tramlines Festival.

The band, hotly tipped by BBC Introducing’s Iain Hodgson, are also well known for their close relationship with fans and relentless self-promotion including guerilla gigs on trams, busking to the queuing public at Tramlines festival and a growing number of music videos and free downloads – available through their BandCamp profile.

Recent EPs “Fearful Lullaby” and “The Steelworks Sessions” showcase a matured, nuanced sound influenced by bands such as the Editors and The Arcade Fire and explain why the band have shared bills with Kaiser Chiefs, Reverend and The Makers, The Courteeners and Frankie and The Heartstrings.

Spring 2011 will see the band publicising their recent sessions back in the acclaimed Steelworks Studio, and fans can look forward to a ‘big, wall of sound’ feel as the band continue to grow and develop their sound with three new tracks ‘Legacy’ ‘Take Aim’ and ‘Phobia’.

/// Left Ajar
