Soundclash Vs Tiny Teeth Records presents Arkham Karvers
See Emily Play + The Conroys + Chatfield + The Northern Generals
NEW INDIE RECORD LABLE GIVES SHEFFIELD’S UNSIGNED TALENT NEW OPPORTUNITIES.
Sheffield has one of the largest populations of working artists and musicians in the country, outside of the capital, but suffers from a lack of opportunities for local artistes to make the leap from amateur to professional.
After an internationally successful career as a recording artist and touring pop band, JON WINDLE (Formerly of LITTLE MAN TATE) has come home to roost and has hatched a plan to change all that. Jon’s new label, TINY TEETH RECORDS, will offer local unsigned bands new opportunities to perform, record and distribute music, backed by the experience and nowse of internationally seasoned industry professionals.
The lable currently represents up and coming indie artists such as EMILY IRELAND (AKA See Emily Play) and THE ARKHAM KARVERS and has plans to take more local talent under its wing this year.
The LAUNCH EVENT planned for the 25th APRIL 2012 sees the label team up with local gig-masters SOUNDCLASH at PLUG nightclub for an evening of high quality, locally sourced, leftfield indie music.
Headlining at the event are THE ARKHAM CARVERS, a four piece, all male guitar band. Mixing reggae guitars with complex rhythms and indie vocals, their tightly worked harmonies, anti generic attitudes, not to mention the flush of youth lend this band a charm which has besotted Northern audiences since their conception in 2008. The band’s recently released EP (THE PRICES THEY PAY) has received rave reviews both locally and nationally, now signed to Tiny Teeth the band’s unique off beat ‘musical mayhem’ never fails to get the audience dancing.
Since joining Jon Windle’s touring band as a backing vocalist in 2010, EMILY IRELAND (under the banner of ‘SEE EMILY PLAY’) has enjoyed national acclaim and now supports big name acts such as THE (Beautiful) SOUTH and TOM HINGLEY (Inspiral Carpets). Emily has been playing piano and guitar, singing and composing music since the tender age of 13. Her EP release this winter saw a sell out audience pack Sheffield’s Library Theatre. Emily’s dainty beauty belies her enormous, powerful voice which is cleverly offset by intricate piano, funky, folksy guitar and lyrics which have a heart breaking tenderness, tinged with irony and modern angst. Her popularity in Sheffield is assured and now signed to Tiny Teeth, she finally has the representation she needs to take her unique sound to the international stage.
The audience at the Tiny Teeth vs. Soundclash launch night will also be treated to sets from local unsigned indie bands including The Conroys,Chatfield and The Northern Generals who have all enjoyed success in Sheffield and now look to local music luminaries, like Jon Windle, to ensure their place on the national gig circuit.
Tiny Teeth Records have had great success with their releases to date and their ever-growing roster looks set to thrill audiences across the country with new indie sounds and an eclectic mix of northern talent. The idea behind the brand is to ‘Give something back to the northern music scene...’ enthuses Jon ‘...I owe so much, my whole career, really, to Sheffield’s audiences and to the musicians of Yorkshire, creating this record label is a labour of love for me and I’m proud and excited to be representing such talented young people...’
