It's birthday time for one of the irrepressible forces of the Plug's promotions team in august with LJ Freeman notching another candle on his cake! Freeman is the dynamo behind the club's house music presence, coordinating the dirty grooves that punctuate Shuffle each and every week.
Instilling a devoted following within Sheffield's clubbers, his annual parties have quickly become notorious with the city's hedonists. 2008's offering lives up to that hype.
Headlining are the kings of dirty house licks the Hoxton Whores. Kings of the remix, since they hurled themselves headfirst into the dance music scene in the early stages of the twenty first century they've touched up a sweltering selection of artists, Deep Dish, Danny Howells, Faithless, Kathy Brown, Leftfield, Moloko, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Todd Terry among them.
And their Djing prowess is equally as emblematic, taking them to the finest clubs and parties across the world with regular appearances at Pacha, Kissdadfunk, Big beach Boutique and the WMC. Favs of Freeman over the years for their energetic funky and above all downright filthy groove heavy sets, they're perfect to help the man face up to another year on the planet.
Alongside the Whores will be the Funk Junkies, Shuffle residents and the duop behind the Charged project that has whipped up a frenzy in the hosue music community in 2008. And of course Mr Freeman himself will be spinning, treating Shuffle to another of his sets which will no doubt be peppered with a glut of classics.
Over in the second room the alternative anthems will continue to get an airing from Plug's other facet of Saturday night clubbing. Here the erstwhile funk and body popping party tunes will be injected with a swagger by Tom Lee.
