Ali began DJing almost by accident. She'd been a collector of old funk, soul and disco for sometime, but had never considered playing the tunes to a crowd, when, in her second year at University in 2002, a call came in from some mates who were throwing a party at a local club. They couldn't find anyone to play a warm-up, so she reluctantly agreed, donned her headphones for the first time.and has never looked back.
Such humble beginnings quickly blossomed and Peeky's quickly established herself on the city's DJ circuit. After various slots playing in bars and after parties, her first residency was offered in 2003 by one of Sheffield's finest nights Urban Gorilla where she held down a spot in their second room for several months before the night moved to a one-roomed venue at the beginning of 2004. This led to her co-running and DJing at The Living Room, the weekly UG pre-bar.
Her ever-growing popularity was rewarded with notable sets around the city. She played a headline set in the 2nd room for the Nokia Tour 2004 featuring John Digweed as well as a warm-up at the 2004 Sheffield Students Union Freshers Fair for Norman Jay before setting the scene for Paul Arnold and Friendly's Chew The Fat showcase at .Zero.
Things really moved up a gear his year when, in May 2005, Ali took on the role as one of the Promotions and Live Events Managers at Sheffield's brand new 1200 capacity venue Plug. Here, her DJing work goes hand in hand with programming and organising the bookings for Sheffield's freshest venue.
