This and an eventful set - including a Slipknot cover; a naked stage diver; and a wall of death - took this from a great gig to an absolutely outstanding gig.

So the cowbells and dustbin lids have been replaced by synthesisers and keyboards, but it makes no difference, the Mystery Jets have secured a place in my heart despite their change in sound.

The atmosphere from the off was great, with a lovely appreciation between fans and band alike, there was even a crack about being from the north of their country, and knowing how folks get more friendly the more north you get

One thing I didn't expect from FOALS tonight was the intro - Greek Sing-a-long, which, to me, sounded like Benedictine monks at a rave. So that was nice, and it shook you up a little, which is what this band does. Send them into hospitals to play for long-term coma sufferers; they'd soon wake up, legs shaking and head nodding.

Tonight's line up is an independent music fans dream. Forget the 'indie' world with its chart hits, bland rhythms and product placing attitude, this isn't the indie music you expect to be brandishing front covers of magazines. It's the music you stand by, support and believe could one day hit the big time, whereas in truth, deep down the future isn't so bright.

The place is rammed full of people who probably were about when Patti was first coming into the spotlight (unlike this reviewer). A thin figure in tight jeans, big black suit jacket and “a t-shirt bought from Debenams”, her features are faring well over the years.
