Formed in 2002 5 boys from Hull, The Paddingtons, released 4 singles and the album, 'First Comes First' picked up a legion of devoted fans and toured the world making it their playground. Getting bored and disillusioned by the music scene they decided to give it all up for the much lauded 9-5 job, having realised they couldn't actually get one, The Paddingtons are back in 2008 but this time it's on their own terms! The Paddingtons are widely revered as the last bastions of the punk rock ethos so as you'd expect the time in between as was far from the usual. After moving to Glasgow to find themselves, they ended up trapped in the The Castle of Doom with Tony 'Hacksaw Jim' Doogan, who didn't record legendary bands like The Proclaimers but did work with Super Fury Animals and Mogwai. They eventually escaped with their second album 'No Mundane Options'. Knowing that the first place they'd look was Hull, The Paddingtons swapped continents and sailed to America, docking in New York. Fooling immigration by disguising their guitars as cakes, the boys played their first American shows which ended up with them collaborating with well know Disney song writer, Adam Green on their B-side, 'Lady Boy'. On their return to the UK they found the industry a shadow of it's former self, with the fat cats drinking all the milk and leaving none for the runts of the litter, so they set up a gypsy camp, which mainly consisted of a few caravans that they fabricated out of the scrapped metal they had tatted. But it's not all about them you know, they give something back. Having been involved with Love Music Hate Racism for 3 years, the band put on the most over subscribed LMHR indoor gig at the legendary Hull City Hall. This summer saw the camp moved on to Glastonbury, playing everyday including a 2 o'clock Sunday morning set for their hero Joe at the packed out Strummerville stage followed by no sleep and a rammed out Leftfield tent introduced by the legendary pipe and slippers, Tony Benn. to be continued.....
