UG Midweek Madness: Krafty Kuts + Herve + Splitloop + More
Price: £6.00 Door time: 10.30pm Age: 18+
If there's one thing we can thank students for beyond sales of Super Noodles and the keeping alive of Neighbours then it's midweek partying. The fun and frolics that lay ahead for those who simply don't have work in the morning (or better still have a great sicky excuse) are one of club land's finest rewards, and Urban gorilla reflect this brilliantly in their midweek shenanigans.
The first room will be reverberating to the sounds of the south coast's greatest record label with Brighton stalwarts Against the Grain bringing their seventh birthday celebrations up ‘norf. Helmed by Krafty Kuts, the imprint has delivered some of the finest moments break beat has showed in the last seven years, with scene stealing albums from The Freestylers, Ed Solo and Skool of Thought, Deekline & wizard and Splitloop. The latter join label head honcho krafty Kuts as the main stars at this show, with support coming from Absorb and Armitage Shanks for a full throttle excursion through the turbo qualities of stuttering beats.
And then onto the second room where a man with his own vision of stuttering beats and bass also rocks up. Joshua Hervey, or Herve as club land has affectionately called him, is quickly becoming one of the scene leaders for his amalgamations of cut up funk under nom de plume The Count, occasionally performing alongside erstwhile fellow deck demon Sinden. Throwing every genre into his music with a kitchen sink manifesto for sampling, he's been part of the wave of artists who've took fidget house to death defying levels of intensity. He's a big a rowdy party starter as you can muster. Their joined by Club Pony deck maestros run Hide Survive, who fresh form their earth shattering Kaiser Chiefs remix bring some panoramic electro jitter genius to the fold.
